The Internet Society Uganda Chapter is pleased to announce the Uganda Internet Governance Week (UIGWeek) 2026, scheduled to take place from 27th–30th July 2026 in Kampala under the theme:
“Shaping Uganda’s Digital Future: Building an Inclusive, Trustworthy, and Sustainable Internet.”
As Uganda accelerates its digital transformation, Internet Governance has become central to ensuring that technology serves the needs of citizens, businesses, and institutions alike. From Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity to digital inclusion, online safety, data protection, and affordable connectivity, the decisions made today will shape the country’s digital future for generations to come.
Uganda Internet Governance Week 2026 will bring together policymakers, Members of Parliament, government agencies, the private sector, academia, civil society organisations, the technical community, development partners, innovators, youth leaders, and the wider public to engage in meaningful dialogue on the opportunities and challenges presented by the digital age.
The four-day programme will comprise four flagship engagements:
- Uganda School of Internet Governance (UgSIG) – equipping participants with foundational and advanced knowledge on Internet Governance, including emerging issues such as Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, digital public infrastructure, and the Global Digital Compact.
- Uganda Youth Internet Governance Forum (UYIGF) – empowering young people to actively contribute to digital policy conversations while promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, online safety, and digital rights.
- Uganda Parliamentary Internet Governance Forum (UPIGF) – strengthening the capacity of Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff to engage with evolving digital policy, legislation, and oversight responsibilities.
- Uganda Internet Governance Forum (UIGF) – Uganda’s premier national multi-stakeholder platform for dialogue on Internet Governance, providing space for collaborative discussions that inform national, regional, and global digital policy processes.
Speaking ahead of the event, Lillian Nalwoga, UIGWEEK convenor, emphasised the importance of inclusive dialogue in shaping Uganda’s digital future.
“The Internet has become an essential part of our social and economic lives. Internet Governance is no longer a conversation for technical experts alone—it affects every Ugandan. Uganda Internet Governance Week provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to contribute towards building an Internet that is open, secure, inclusive, and beneficial for everyone.”
This year’s edition comes at a significant moment in global digital cooperation, following the adoption of the United Nations Global Digital Compact and the confirmation of the Internet Governance Forum as a permanent United Nations platform. These developments present an important opportunity for Uganda to strengthen its contribution to international digital policy discussions while ensuring national priorities are reflected on the global stage.
Participants can expect high-level keynote addresses, panel discussions, technical workshops, innovation exhibitions, networking opportunities, and collaborative sessions aimed at developing practical recommendations for Uganda’s digital future.
