Bringing All MANRS Specifications Under the MANRS Development Process

As MANRS continues to evolve, we want to ensure that its core specifications are maintained in a way that is transparent, consistent, and easy for the community to track. With the introduction of the MANRS Development Process (MDP) earlier this year, we now have a structured and inclusive framework for developing, updating, and maintaining MANRS specifications that includes version control, clear naming conventions, and stable references.

To fully benefit from the MDP, we are bringing all existing MANRS documents — including Actions and Implementation Guides — into the new format. This is not a content update, but an alignment exercise that will make the entire MANRS specification landscape easier to navigate and manage.

What We Are Doing

Over the coming weeks, we will:

  • Assign MDP Document IDs to all current MANRS specifications, including their status, type, version number, and publication date.
  • Add the MDP metadata to each document to ensure consistent structure and long-term traceability.
  • Publish all documents under the “Approved Specifications” section on the MANRS website, alongside new specifications developed via the MDP.

This work creates a clean starting point for future review cycles. By assigning initial version numbers (e.g., MDP-003.01, MDP-004.01), we can preserve historical records and clearly reflect any future updates undertaken through the community-led MDP process.

Why This Matters

Aligning all MANRS specifications with the MDP framework provides several important benefits:

  • Transparency – The community can trace how specifications evolve over time.
  • Stability – Each document has a durable, versioned reference point.
  • Consistency – All MANRS Actions and related materials follow the same structure and naming scheme.
  • Foundations for future reviews – The community is preparing to review selected MANRS specifications; aligning documents now ensures a clean and well-organized baseline.

This effort supports our broader goal of making MANRS development more open, predictable, and community-driven. As we move into the upcoming review cycles, the MDP framework — and its consistent document structure — will help everyone participate more effectively.

We look forward to continuing this work together and will keep the community updated as we progress.
