ISOC-IL at EuroDIG 2025: Advancing Digital Inclusion and Disinformation Resilience

From May 12–14, 2025, ISOC-IL participated in EuroDIG 2025 in Strasbourg, France, under the theme “Safeguarding human rights by balancing regulation and innovation.” Our representatives played key roles in the planning and delivery of important sessions addressing digital inequality and disinformation.

Edan Ring, VP of Community Affairs at ISOC-IL, served as the focal point leader for Workshop 05: “Bridging Digital Inequalities and Challenges in Multicultural Societies”. In this session, Edan emphasized the need to tailor digital technologies to the unique needs and capabilities of diverse communities. Drawing on ISOC-IL’s latest research, he presented findings from “Quantifying Inclusion & Online Safety: Insights and Data on Internet Use and Digital Literacy in Arab Society in Israel,” supported by the ISOC Foundation. He also shared perspectives on digital inclusion among senior citizens, focusing on the challenges of digital literacy and the fight against misinformation in this population.

For over two decades, ISOC-IL has worked to strengthen digital literacy and resilience among vulnerable populations in Israel—particularly the Arab minority and senior citizens. These efforts include educational workshops, community conferences, and regular surveys and research studies aimed at understanding and addressing the Internet-related needs of more vulnerable segments of the population. You can learn more about this work on our Bridging Israel’s Digital Divide page.

Nitsan Yasur, ISOC-IL’s Disinformation and Digital Investigations Lead, contributed as part of the organizing team for Meeting 04: “Transatlantic Rift on Freedom of Expression”. In the session, Nitsan addressed the complexities of platform accountability and content moderation on social media. His remarks were grounded in ISOC-IL’s recent publication, “Drowning in the Flood: Social Media Platforms’ Failure to Manage Harmful and Pro-Terror Content During Israel-Hamas War.”

ISOC-IL’s involvement at EuroDIG 2025 was part of the broader “Disinformation Resilience Israel” (DRI) project, led by ISOC-IL with support from the European Union. The project seeks to bolster fact-finding capacity among media and civil society organizations, raise public awareness, promote media literacy, and drive forward research to build a more informed, critical, and inclusive information ecosystem.

ISOC-IL is deeply committed to strengthening digital resilience in Israeli society through education and collaboration. It regularly develops and distributes multilingual (Hebrew and Arabic) public tools, policy reports on disinformation resilience, and conducts hands-on workshops that equip educators, students, and community leaders with practical digital literacy and online safety skills. As a strong advocate for voluntary public-private partnerships, ISOC-IL promotes educational initiatives that foster internet safety and critical digital competencies—an approach that is essential for building a more resilient and informed society. Notable recent examples include the launch of FakeOrNot.org.il, an interactive media literacy platform for students and educators developed in partnership with the Mofet Institute and the Israel Democracy Institute, and ISOC-IL’s prominent role in the Technion’s Computer Science Hackathon, focused on developing technological solutions to combat disinformation.
