Report on International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025

On March 11, 2025, the Internet Society (ISOC) Nigeria Chapter, in collaboration with the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Plateau State Chapter, proudly celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 in Jos, Plateau State. This inspiring event honored 30 women in the tech industry and was held at Lamonde By Somewhere.

By 11:00 AM, nearly all invited guests had registered, signed our AccelerateHer Board, and settled in as the event officially began.

Key Highlights of the Event

1. Keynote Address by Igba Priscillia

The event opened with a keynote address by Igba Priscillia, Treasurer of ISOC Nigeria Chapter, who spoke passionately about this year’s IWD theme, “Accelerate Action.” She turned her session into an engaging discussion, inviting the women to share their personal interpretations of what it means to accelerate action in their careers and communities.

In addition, she introduced the audience to the Internet Society (ISOC), explaining its role in advocating for an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy internet. She also shared how women can join the ISOC Nigeria community, encouraging them to take advantage of networking opportunities, skill-building programs, and initiatives that empower women in tech.

2. Guest Speaker Session – Ms. Winifred Wang

We were privileged to have Ms. Winifred Wang as our guest speaker. She delivered an insightful talk on advocating for gender equality and the role women can play in shaping the future of the internet, cybersecurity, and leadership in Nigeria.

3. Accelerate Action Pitch Session

The most exciting part of the event was the Accelerate Action Pitch Session. Participants were divided into four groups and tasked with brainstorming and pitching innovative ideas to empower women and girls in tech. Here’s what each group presented:

• Group 1 – Tech Her Young: A mentorship initiative connecting women and girls with mentors, peer networks, resources, and funding opportunities.

• Group 2 – Code and Cradle (Website): A safe and reliable daycare solution designed for women in tech, ensuring they have trusted childcare while advancing their careers.

• Group 3 – Accelerate Her (App): A digital platform providing mental health support for women and girls facing emotional challenges.

• Group 4 – She’s Beyond Code (App): A platform empowering women and girls in non-tech careers, bridging the gap between technology and other industries.

Each group’s pitch showcased innovative and practical solutions that could drive real change for women in tech.

4. Vision Board Activity

To wrap up the event, participants engaged in a vision board session, where each woman wrote an inspiring quote that resonated with her journey and aspirations. This activity served as a powerful reminder of the impact and potential of women in technology.

A Historic Moment for ISOC Nigeria

This was our first-ever IWD event of this scale, and the energy in the room was incredible! Attendees were thrilled to connect, share experiences, and network with other women making waves in their fields.

A heartfelt thank you to Internet Society Nigeria Chapter and NCS Plateau State Chapter for partnering with us to make this event a success. Together, we are accelerating action for a more inclusive and equitable tech industry!
