Earlier this year, we surveyed the MANRS community to understand (1) if the current MANRS Actions remain fit for purpose and (2) how the Actions could be improved to better serve a rapidly evolving routing security landscape. Survey feedback indicated that all MANRS programs remain relevant and effective, but there is a need to improve clarity and precision of the Actions and strengthen auditing and conformance language. To that end, the Steering Committee has decided to start a review of the MANRS Network Operators Program Actions first. This work will follow the steps outlined in the MANRS Development Process (MDP). To conduct the work, we’re forming a dedicated MANRS Network Operators Program Review Working Group (NetOpsRev WG) to assess and evolve the MANRS Actions.
The Working Group (WG) will evaluate the current Actions, participation and implementation requirements, and associated auditing mechanisms. It will develop proposed updates aimed at improving clarity, measurability, and effectiveness, while supporting broader adoption. The group will also consider alignment with emerging operational practices and routing security threats, and recommend approaches for transitioning to any revised requirements.
Participation in the Working Group is open to everyone, including network operators, security experts, researchers, and other stakeholders. You do not need to be a current MANRS participant to join.
The WG will operate in an open and transparent manner, with regular meetings and opportunities for wider community input, and will work toward delivering draft updated Actions for community review in line with the MDP. A draft charter is available, and the group’s first task will be to review, revise, and finalize it.
Expected timeline and milestones:
- WG Formation – Q2 2026
- Survey Analysis & Problem Statement – Q2 2026
- Draft Updated Actions – Q3 2026
- Community Review – Q3 2026
We invite you to contribute your expertise to this important effort.
If you are interested, please contact the MANRS Secretariat by email at [email protected] before May 1, 2026, providing a brief background about yourself, your current role, and relevant experience or interest in routing security.
We look forward to your engagement in shaping the next evolution of MANRS.
