On Friday – Sunday, 11–13 September 2026, from 14:00 CEST (12:00 UTC), the MetaRheinMainChaosDays (MRMCD) hold ‘MRMCD 2026 — Grenzen überwinden‘ (‘Overcoming Borders’) at the Robert-Piloty-Gebäude of TU Darmstadt in Darmstadt, Germany.
This year’s theme holds that borders are everywhere — some built of concrete and barbed wire, others of bureaucracy, protocols, or badly documented APIs. Some protect, others exclude, and some exist only because nobody has yet tried to overcome them. But not every border may be crossed: just as private data must be protected, personal boundaries must always be respected and defended. In computing, limits shift constantly as processing power grows, networks thicken and systems grow more complex, while new constraints appear in the form of artificial barriers raised by proprietary platforms, regulatory hurdles, overstretched infrastructure, and security models that block more than they protect. Socially too, states erect arbitrary barriers that information can overcome, while technologies connect people across continents and open new digital divides at the same time.
The event will be webcast by the Chaos Computer Club Video Operation Center (C3VOC). Sessions are held mostly in German, with some in English, and there is no live translation.
