In Kenya, the Marsabit County Biashara Center offers training on digital literacy to young people and incubates youth-led tech businesses. In Afghanistan, Incredible IoT hopes to solve local problems through the development of IoT solutions. And in Paraguay, Girls Code offers workshops to young women on programming, electronics, and robotics – as well as support and mentoring.
These are just some of
the initiatives around the world providing young people with the chance to get
involved in information and communication technologies (ICT). And now there’s
an interactive map to help these organizations find each other and team up to
make the Internet – and their communities – stronger.
The Youth Observatory, founded
by members of the Internet Society’s Youth Special Interest Group, has launched
a new interactive map that displays more than 100 Internet-focused
youth initiatives around the world.
The map is part of a larger project called Creating Networks, supported by the Internet Society Foundation and its Beyond the Net Medium and Large Grants program. Creating Networks identifies initiatives that involve young people and issues related to ICT around the world so young people can connect with others working on similar issues.
The Creating Networks project
has also organized a Projects Competition to encourage representatives of the organizations
pinned in the map to collaborate on joint activities. The best project
developers will be invited to attend the Internet Governance Forum 2019 in
Berlin.
